Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson Both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire at the age of five, Emma enrolled at The Dragon School. Emma decided to become an actor when she was six. Through the years she was at the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. In the school, she was taught singing, dancing and acting. The actress had performed in various Stagecoach performances as well as in school events before she reached the age of ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, the 2001 film version to J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Agents for casting found Emma via her Oxford theatre teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone and Ron Weasley told Emma after the eight auditions that she'd been selected for the roles. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's debut film on the screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone which was released in 2001. It broke all records in opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings as well as being the most-grossing feature in 2001. Critics praised the film and the performance of three leading young actors. The widely distributed British paper The Daily Telegraph called her acting performance as admirable. Emma's performance was nominated and received five awards for the film.
